Training

cornwall-07-046b.jpgOutline of the training sessions

The Flying Fish Paramotor training sessions are usually split across several days. With perfect flying conditions and an eager student the course can be completed in as little as three days. There aren’t any prizes for quickly completing the training sessions, so please be aware that how safely the student performs with the equipment and their understanding of the theory required to fly safely will determine the duration of the course.

Day 1: Training begins by learning to ground handle the paraglider wing. Starting with the basics, you will learn to use your glider without a paramotor. You will be taught how to fly the paraglider whilst you remain securely on the ground. After the first day is over you will be taught how to pack away the paraglider correctly. (Note: each student is provided with their own training wing.)

Day 2: Similar to the first day’s training but now in a more realistic setting, strapping into the paramotor harness. You will be comfortable with ground handling your paraglider by yourself but you will still need to get accustomed to carrying the weight of the paramotor engine on your back. Together with both pieces of equipment you will continue to ground handle until you can safely manage the two together.

Day 3: The final stage of training will finally see you take your first flight. A typical launch will require you to run a short distance to assist lifting the wing into the air. A two-way radio headset is provided so that you remain in constant communication with your instructor during the lesson and flight.

A first flight will typically last 15 minutes, during which you’ll receive clear instruction and guidance from the instructor at all times.

Landing is a simple process but requires plenty of practise as this is the stage where mishaps can happen, therefore landing practise will be repeated several times so that you become very familiar with the process.

And again…

It is worth noting that training may take longer than three days as it depends on the individual and how quickly and safely they learn. You will be encouraged to challenge yourself but not without constant assessment from the instructor. If you do not feel confident about progressing to the next stage there is always time to practice further on any issues you wish to concentrate on.

Flying Fish Training is split between single day courses and unlimited* time sessions to provide you with a convenient choice when booking your lessons. See the training booking section at the bottom of this page.

Due to the nature of the Great British weather you will need to be flexible when booking your training sessions. We do our upmost to keep to schedule but last minute changes can occur so please be aware that we shall only fly on suitable weather days.

You will be notified on any training day changes – keeping a few days free in your calendar will certainly be of help to avoid disappointment.

We can provide a range of equipment during the training and first flight sessions, so you are not required to purchase anything unnecessarily. Understandably equipment can be damaged by students in which case the cost of replacements would have to be met by the student involved.

Our online store sells a full range of paramotor products, which we are more than happy to provide advice about if you are seeking to purchase your own gear. We want you to get the most out of your time in the sky whether you are a novice flyer or an experienced paraglider wanting to try paramotoring. Just ask, and we’ll do what we can to help.

Flying Fish Paramotor Training has insurance to cover any unlikely accidents that may occur during the sessions. Please see the Disclaimer and Terms & Conditions PDF forms below for more details.
